LIMIT Records is a classical music record label created to introduce the public to recordings by composers and performers often overlooked by the industry’s large multinationals, most of who are Spanish. Through a series of high-quality, meticulously recorded and select productions, we strive to make part of our musical heritage available to music enthusiasts around the world. Pianist and composer Leonora Milà is the brand’s flagship, both as a performer and composer. Nonetheless, the LIMIT catalogue also includes recordings by top-level and internationally-renowned orchestras (London Philharmonic Orchestra, Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra, Central Philharmonic Orchestra of China, Orchestre National de l’Opéra de Monte-Carlo), prestigious chamber ensembles (Berliner Streichquintett, Quartet de Barcelona) and young soloists with distinguished and solid artistic careers (pianist Enrique Bagaría and vocalist Assumpta Mateu, to name two examples), which form the backbone of our small collection, in which product quality and distinctiveness are the main raison d’être.
LIMIT Records was founded in 1964 by the promoter, manager and husband of pianist and composer Leonora Milà. Over the past five decades, the label has published seventy-odd classical music records, and even made forays into jazz. With the death of Joan Deltell on 26 April 2009, LIMIT Records merged with the production company El Far Blau S.L., committed to upholding the principles that guided Joan Deltell’s life and career: a firm commitment to culture. Thus the new heads of LIMIT Records decided to reedit, re-master and rerelease a sizeable portion of the catalogue archives. Reissuing records, however, has not stopped the company from producing new musical offerings, some of which have received critical acclaim, such as Milà Plays Falla (Leonora Milà) and Carnaval (Enrique Bagaría).
LIMIT Records (1964-2014) is now celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding with the goal to continue to produce records of interest to music enthusiasts in general and classical music lovers in particular. This label, unique in the world due to the distinctiveness of its performers, composers and selection of works, has managed to stay afloat thanks to the quality and appeal of its catalogue.
LIMIT Records currently belongs to the Catalan production company El Far Blau S.L. and is run by journalist, philologist and promoter Bernat Deltell. It also employs an artistic advisory team featuring orchestra director Edmon Colomer, promoter Marijó Riba and musician and sound engineer Albert Moraleda.
